Nyanja Vibes
Nyanja Vibes is a genre born from the shimmering shores of Lake Malawi, affectionately known as the "Lake of Stars." This album is a vibrant cocktail of Malawian folk rhythms and melodies, brought to life through the soulful sounds of the sansi (thumb piano), marimba, and mbalule (talking drum), seamlessly fused with contemporary African guitar riffs.
Recorded, engineered, and produced by Peter Mawanga at Parsons Studio in North Carolina, with the collaboration of his friend Jon Parsons, the album embodies the spirit of innovation and cultural pride. After a grueling yet triumphant U.S. tour with his band, The Amaravi Movement, the album was mixed to perfection by multi-Grammy Award-winning engineer Jim Robeson in Washington, D.C. in 2017.
Nyanja Vibes was released in 2018, inviting listeners on a rich, sonic journey that bridges Malawi’s traditional heritage with a modern, global soundscape. It’s more than an album—it’s a celebration of identity, resilience, and creativity.
