In 2014, Peter Mawanga joined forces with Norwegian broadcaster Sigbjørn Nedland to breathe new life into Malawi’s rich musical history. With support from the Norwegian Embassy, over 5,000 recordings from the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation archives were digitized. Inspired by these timeless treasures, Mawanga assembled a stellar team of musicians, including Faith Mussa, Sam Mjura Mkandawire, Marlyn Chakwera Chimombo, and Norwegian producer Georg Buljo, to form Takula.

Blending Malawi’s traditional rhythms and harmonies with a modern twist, their self-titled album Takula celebrates songs of pain, renewal, and freedom. Each track bridges the past and future, creating a vibrant fusion of Nyanja vibes and global sounds.
